Abstract

This work concerns the evaluation of some physicochemical properties of the saline soil contribution to the distribution and development of the spontaneous plant Halocnemum strobilaceum in Touggourt wetlands (Lake of Méggarine and Sidi Slimane). Sampling (soil and plant) at the two stations mentioned above was carried out at a rate of 12 samples/ stations: three sampling sites/ station and four samples/site. As far as the plant is concerned, selection was carried out on both the aerial and underground parts, also four samples/part. The study of the abundance of this plant, in both stations, indicates its important distribution in the first station (113) compared to the second (49). This is due to environmental factors and negative anthropogenic activity at the last station. In addition, there is a strong positive and highly significant correlation with electrical conductivity, sodium and soil humidity. However, potassium did not have the same relation as in Sidi Slimane station. It is concluded that Halocnemum strobilaceum is a hydro- halophyte plant in terms of its growth and biogeography in hydro-halomorphic and basic soil environments.
