Abstract

The scientific and intellectual life in the M'zab valley region witnessed during the 18th and 19th centuries AD a flourishing and a civilized improvement that left clear imprints in various aspects in the life of the M'zab community. All this was thanks to the efforts of scholars and the Azaba Body who sacrificed themselves so that the truth prevails, the society system reforms and illiteracy finds no place. The religious system focused on education, guidance, religious reform, and building cultural institutions that contributed significantly to educating the Mozabite community, and most importantly its role in calling for unity and brining the society closer together. Besides, in that period a group of eminent scholars led the cultural movement and contributed to its development to ensure its continuity. This results in the spread of writings and manuscripts that led greatly to the enrichment of M'zab libraries. Thus, the M’zab valley region became a leading scientific metropolis that attracts scholars and researchers from different regions to exchange ideas, and benefit from the region’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
